Battlestar Galactica Kills Off Starbuck; Launches SMS Polling
Battlestar’s gone UNBOUND.
I usually catch Battlestar Galactica on iTunes, so I don’t normally see the commercials or promotions. Perhaps I just missed this new polling feature, but I caught it on Sunday night’s episode (which I watched on DVR last night).
Two things struck me: What the frak?! How could they kill off Starbuck?!
And second, the show has started running viewer polls where fans can use their mobile phones to vote on what should happen to certain characters. Each vote costs 99-cents, so the show will collect revenues for the interactivity.
This isn’t the show’s first foray into mobile, of course. Producer Ron Moore has long created podcast commentaries for each new episode.
The SMS feature through a curveball by posing a question about whether Starbuck should be grounded for her erratic behavior. Instead, she got blown to bits.
Something tells me SMS voting (and Starbuck) will be back.
