Enhanced current conditions pages to help consumers keep up with the weather forecasts most relevant to them. A customizable interface. And new content via what is being billed as one of the most comprehensive and user-friendly mobile websites available today.
It's the new Weather.com for Mobile, which means the perennial mobile innovator is at it again.
I'm actually not clear what makes it "Mobile 3.0," (weren't we on to Mobile 4.0?) but it appears to be all the customization options, which, among other things, means users now have the option of tailoring their homepage to prominently feature weather content that best fits their lifestyle, such as airport delays, current conditions, severe weather alerts, school day forecast and pollen activity.
Enhanced future forecasts are available in hourly, 36-hour, 10-day, school day and weekend reports.
And it all comes with enhanced local video forecasts, local and national weather maps, severe weather alerts, and the Hurricane Central section, with an interface designed by Little Springs Design. (The screenshot here is from the legacy site; the new site looks much cooler, but it's not quite live.)
“Based on customer feedback and advanced research, the newest version of our Mobile Web site is one of the most advanced sites available,” says Cameron Clayton, vice president of mobile at The Weather Channel Interactive, in a statement. “Allowing customers to personalize the site to best fit their weather needs gives them instant access to the relevant and accurate weather information they are most interested in.”
The Weather Channel has been one of the leaders in mobile content, so this is sure to be another feather in its cap.
But call me when they have augmented reality, so we see a 3D hologram of the weather map. Now that would be really cool.
