Houghton Mifflin Mobilizes Its Content

Houghton Mifflin's getting an education in mobile content.

The educational publisher is teaming up with mobile content concern Mobifusion to launch a new line of mobile products for mobile phones.

The new effort will focus on delivering content from the company's reference information and children's titles.

Publishers have been going mobile for some time. Harper Collins has mobilized content from foreign language reference books. And Scribner's used mobile to promote titles from authors such as Stephen King.

With consumers on the go, expect to see entire books delivered not just as downloads but over the air. Still, I don't think print's really going anywhere, anytime soon. Digital delivers new ways to experience content. But when it comes to books, paper will rule for the next decade. After that, it's anyone's guess.
