New York Times Launches Mobile Real Estate Listings

The New York Times is getting with the times.

The company has launched a new mobile service that enables readers to receive and send detailed property listings on their mobile devices, regardless of whether their search began in print, online, or on the Times mobile real estate site.

The service has three elements:

• Listings on a WAP site, which enables users to search over 350,000 property listings direct from the mobile site.

• Web-to-Mobile, which allows users to send property listings form NYTimes.com/RealEstate to their mobile phones.

• Print-to-Web-and-Mobile, which enables users to send full details and photos of properties they find in the Times print edition to their mobile device, and also they can search the NYTimes.com/RealEstate section using text codes featured in the print edition.

An interesting new way for media companies - notice I did not say "newspaper companies" - can integrate online, offline and mobile venues.

As Vivian Schiller, senior vice president and general manager, NYTimes.com puts it in a statement: "This new real estate offering is part of our larger efforts to expand our mobile presence and bring our audience what they're looking for on whatever platform they choose. Our new mobile product provides our readers with seamless interaction between their phones and the national real estate market. This should quickly become one of our most popular mobile offerings."
