Halo & Sprocket Join Growing List of Mobile Comic Books
The funnies meet the future: Humor comic "Halo & Sprocket" is now available for mobile phones.
Working with mobile content provider uclick, creator Kelly Callen’s comics join a growing number of comics – including The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Godland, Too Much Coffee Man and others – that are taking to the mobile phone through the GoComics Mobile Comics Reader. Other offerings include Halo and Sprocket wallpapers and animations through uclick’s GoComics Mobile Store.
"When I created 'Halo & Sprocket,'" Callen says, "my goal was to produce something that anyone could enjoy, not just the regular comic book readers. I'm thrilled that it's available on such an accessible format. Hopefully more people can discover its, shall we call it -- quirky charm."
This service is just coming onto my radar, and I think it’s a great idea. I have long said on this blog that I couldn’t figure out why comic books companies weren’t embracing mobile more quickly. The young male demo is the same for both mediums - though mobile offers an even broader market, as Callen points out. And the entire format works well for viewing a comic, panel by panel, and potentially adding sound effects, music and more.
Manga's been mobile for years. Nice to see American comics getting with the act.
Now uclick just needs to broaden out the offering – namely DC and Marvel titles.
